Valve finally revealed Counter Strike New after weeks of speculation. It's a major update to CS:GO which will be bringing it on the Source 2 engine.

It also brings sub-tick server updates as well as smoke grenades that respond to. It's got a lot of armchair gamers going crazy but it is an incredible upgrade for regular players.

Smokes

Counter Strike New has a major update that will alter the way smokes are used in the game. These changes, dubbed responsive smokes, are a game changer. Smokes will now expand to fill spaces naturally and move around objects on the map. They will also react to the lighting in the games, making them appear more realistic. In addition to these new features, smokes will be capable of interfacing with events in the game and will offer new tactical possibilities. For instance, bullets could cause smoke to temporarily clear sightlines, and explosions from hex grenades will disperse smoke occlusion.

The most significant change to smokes is that they will now be a more dynamic part of the game. In previous iterations, smokes were a fixed shape that was limited in the distance they could be pushed and how much vision it blocked. Even the tiniest delay can alter the accuracy of the shot. A new video reveals one of the game's biggest under-the-hood improvements, known as sub-tick updates.

Instead of a 64-tick-update each millisecond, CSGO is now able to use sub-ticks, or as Valve calls it, "micro ticks", to communicate with servers. The client will record each of these tiny increments and transmit them to the server. The server will send the updated game state back to players. The servers will be able to tell when you fired a shot or jumped, or swung, or pounced.

The video does not provide all the information. However, it does explain that every piece of data sent by the client has a date and time and that the server will gather all information in chronological order from all players before sending it back. According to the video, a CS: GO will be able send twice as much data than a 64-tick CS: GO.

That means that if the game's tick speed increases to 128 Hz, it will be able to process your commands immediately and consistently. The micro-tick updates also reduce input lag, ensuring that the server responds to your commands without delays or glitches.

Valve's technical enhancements to the game are only the beginning. The company is using particles and dynamic smoke to improve how smoke interacts with its environment. It's also updating all maps with high-resolution lighting, textures, and models. All CS: GO cosmetics and weapons will be updated with Source 2 tools and features.

Maps

The coming update for Counter Strike New will bring new maps to the game, along with a few classics that are being given facelifts. These updates are being tested in a limited beta.
